The objective of this study is to assess the magnitude of iron deficiency anemia amongst the women, from Minority & Backward Community of the project area under Bishnupur Municipality.

The baseline information so gathered about the project area population & by its disintegrated data analysis considering possible determinants like number of family members, income, food habit, literacy, health care seeking behavior etc. enlightened us further about specific inputs that are needed to overcome the problem of anemia. One dismal finding of avg. Hb % being 8.59gm % asks itself for an urgent & intense intervention need.

Community based intervention to reduce problem of IDA is our key objective. However, it was clear from community based survey that people rely upon governmental health care for major health problems (54.8%). Severe anemia patients or those with associated morbidities must be treated immediately. Liaison with local govt. health infrastructure would help the community. More importantly people would be made aware to recognize anemia as a major health problem and not something to be reluctantly accepted as inevitability.

This survey to start with is an eye opener for us. Activities in the coming days would hopefully help us in achieving our objectives.
